OSKALOOSA GOLF: a full bar complete with multiple cold brews on tap, comfortable booths with a full menu served by a waitress? 

EDMUNDSON GOLF COURSE: a hot dog machine with beer in a can? 

OSKALOOSA CITY TOURNAMENT: making changes for the worse?

After decades of the Oskaloosa City Tournament being a two-day 36 hole competition held at the city owned, Edmundson Golf Course (EGC), MK Golf, Inc. reduced it to a one-day 18 hole event. The only exception was for a few playing from the Blue tees, who still only played 27 holes (not 36).

Another unilateral decision by MK Golf, Inc., destroying a decades worth of tradition. 

Interestingly enough, a new course, Harvest Point, owned by MK Golf, Inc, was included in the competition for those playing from the Blue tees. Is it really a “City” tournament if its played on a non-city owned course?

Coincidentally, after only about a weeks notice of the new format and scheduled date, turnout was very, very poor. The tournament results posted by MK Golf, Inc. showed only 36 players entered, with 33 posting a score (per EGC website).

It seems that the City of Oskaloosa has once again abandoned their golfing community to poor decision making by their contractor, MK Golf, Inc.

LET’S COMPARE!

1) Would you rather play golf knowing your yardage to the pin, or guess which club to use?

EDMUNDSON GOLF COURSE (EGC): their scorecard advertises red, white and blue flags, yet ALL their flags are a red and black checkered pattern. 18 holes, SAME flag. Every pin placement is a mystery, unlike the representation on the scorecard!

• Some might call this “false advertising”, which is a criminal offense. At minimum, it is to your detriment if you decide to play EGC based on its scorecard’s representation that it utilizes red, white and blue pin placement flags.
• Indeed, the fairway markers provide the location of the middle of the green. Unfortunately the hole placement is not consistently in the middle of the green. Golfers ALWAYS want to know where the hole is located: front (red pin), middle (white pin) or back (blue pin) so they can use the correct club! Accurate yardages can make the difference between a 5 foot or 55 foot putt!
• What does this tell you about MK Golf, Inc.? Apparently providing accurate yardage information is not important, otherwise they would use the pin placement flags that they advertise.
